I-act

Taking its inspiration from its location- Alexandria- the world's ancient ‘meeting place', director and playwright Mahmoud Aboudoma founded I-act in 2003. The International Association for Creation & Training uses the arts, and specifically theatre, to advocate for and enhance social change and freedom of expression. For several years, I-act has been at the center of the artistic scene in Alexandria and Egypt. I-act founded the "Creative Forum for Independent Theatre Groups", an annual international event that adopted an anti-festival concept and over its 7 successful editions presented diverse theatre performances, publications and dialogue programs in addition to training and capacity building workshops for local and international artists. Since 2012, I-act established its new international and multidisciplinary event "Backstreet Festival" and currently, I-act is also running its own entrepreneurial art space and social hub ‘Teatro Eskenderia'.
